Free Virgin Mobile Ringtone

Virgin mobile is currently sending out some promo codes that select customers will be able to use to claim some free ringtones. The ringtone codes are being sent to customers who have downloaded only a couple ringtones in an effort to get them to start downloading more. I'm not sure of the exact requirements, just that within the next week everyone who is going to get the code will have received it.

To use the free virgin mobile ringtone code, just go to VirginXtras/VirginXL and select "redeem a code"..

The code you receive is only good once, and you have to have been sent the code for it to work for you. Trying to use someone elses code will not get you the ringtones.

Now Free Oystr, K10, and Nokia Shorty

Virgin Mobile released today a new free phone offer. The free phone offer requires no promo code. To get a free oystr, just order the phone from the website and you will receive the phone, plus $20 in free airtime.

You get the minutes when you activate the phone. You do not have to do anything special to get the minutes, the second you activate you will have the minutes!

Virgin Mobile has yet to offer a new free promo code. It's been about a month since the last promo code has been released and they are not giving any information to any of the reps as to when new promo codes will be offered.

Right now it looks like the only way to get a free minute code is to quit using your phone and receive the "you haven't used your phone in 3 months here a promo code" promo code!

I'll keep a look out for new codes, but until then, you can try using 062007. To use this promo code you will have to call virgin mobile and tell them you receive this code in the mail. You may have to call 2-3 times before they will give you the promo code. Do not allow them to top you up until they say they will credit the $10 to your account, or this wont work.

If anyone has receive a new code in the mail, feel free to post it up in a comment!

Carrollton Texas Call Center Closing

From what I hear, the Carrollton call center will be closing within the next 3 months. This call center is located in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and is managed by ICT. Virgin Mobile over staffed the call center and immediately after making it their flagship center, they realized it was their worst.. All this will do is make virgin mobiles hold times and call times longer. If you were thinking about applying for a job there, it's a waste of time.

Looks like someone decided they would like to copy me (http://virginmobiles.blogspot.com ) and make their own virgin mobile site. I'm actually glad to see it, as there needs to be more good resources on the net for virgin mobile and prepaid phones. If only they knew how little money I make off of this site, than maybe they would reconsider copying me. This site buys me a latte once a month, I do it to help people, not to personally gain.

Virgin Mobile prepaid phones are probably the best in the prepaid industry. Although they do not have walkie talkie (chirp, push to talk) like Boost Mobile phones do, they do have a great network and great service..

There are some things that you need to keep in mind when getting a prepaid cell phone plan. The prepaid plan is going to be more expensive than a plan where you have a contract. The phone will probably be more expensive (not in virgin mobiles case, through) than a cell phone you got when you renewed your contract or set up a contract. Though, with a prepaid plan, there usually are not overage charges and you are free to stop using it at any time. You can also take your number with you when you leave the prepaid provider, or even bring a number in from your old provider.

There really isn't a winner when it comes to Prepaid vs Contract Plans, each has their own advantages over the other. But when you have a choice between getting a prepaid phone vs a regular phone, and you plan to keep it for awhile, it is economically advantageous to go with the regular contract phone plan.

There are alternatives to Virgin Mobile, such as Alltel Wireless, Cingular, T-Mobile, Boost Mobile, and tracphone.

Today I'm going to review all of Virgin Mobiles Phones, and give you information on your favorite and least favorite virgin mobile phone.

Kyocera Slider Sonic
The "top of the line" Virgin Mobile Phone is the Slider Sonic

The slider sonic seems like a great phone, but it comes with a skimpy 32mb Transflash card. (most phones come with 1 or 2 gig microsd cards).. The phone's sliding mechanism is also prone to failure, though almost all slider phones/sliding phones face the same issues. It's a decent phone, but personally I'm going to stick with my T-Mobile exclusive Nokia 5300. I couldn't live with the 3 hours talk time of the slider sonic.

The slider sonic does have a couple good features worth mentioning. It can play WMA and mp3 songs (though you can't fit many), it has a decent? camera for it's price, and has a video recorder.

US Starcom Slice:
My personal favorite cheap phone is the Slice. The slice is a good, sturdy, non flip phone making it way more reliable. The internal antenna is better than all of the other virgin phones, and provides much better reception. It is a great phone with a great menu system. The Slice does not have the issues common with other Virgin Mobile phones.

Nokia Shorty:
Another good phone is the Nokia Shorty. The Nokia Shorty is a non-flip phone like the Slice and is nearly indestructable. You have to try to break a nokia shorty, it won't break on it's own. It has a tried and true design and it is really a great phone, although it's main issue is that it is out of date. The menus and design are lame and un-appealing, but if you want a phone that just works, the Nokia Shorty is it.

Kyocera Oystr:
The Oystr is know as the worst phone ever made. It's the cheapest phone you can imagine, and with a selling price of $20, it's obvious. The oystr is what we call a throw away. A throw away phone is good for a week, maybe a month, rarely a year. You use this for affairs, drug deals, and your 10 year old daughter. You don't rely on this phone. You can't rely on this phone.

Kyocera Marbl (shadowmouse):
This great phone is a re-branded Kyocera Oystr. It's the same exact phone, different case design. It is just as horrible as the Oystr. Avoid it like the plague, unless your having an affair, selling drugs, or you have a 10 year old daughter.

K10 Royal
The K10 royal is another tried and true phone like the Nokia Shorty. It's a little more out of date, and it's about 20 different colors. It's not a bad phone, it's just not a good phone. It's one of those phones you give your elderly relatives. It will work forever, it's just won't work like a PDA.

Audiovox Snapper
The audiovox snapper appears to be a cool phone that could almost compete with a helio... no, not really. It's screen is so small it's in the guiness book of world records. It has the lowest resolution camera on the face of the earth. It's screen dies every month and you have to order a replacement. It's another phone to avoid.

Kyocera Cyclops
It's a working Oystr. It has a camera, and did I mention it actually works? It's what the oystr started out as before $60 in price cuts. Camera works, and the phone works. Not a bad phone for the price.

Kyocera Switch_back
AKA the Takeit_back. The screen is the size of a pencil eraser and it closes like a rust iron gate. The keys are so small you have to use a stylus to press them. The outside keys also suck, and the phone just plain sucks. The camera is bad, and the camera flash is a joke. Get a slider sonic.

Free Virgin Mobile Ringtones

If your looking for virgin mobile ringtones, I'm sure you already know you can get free ringtones and wallpapers, but how exactly do you do it?

To get free ringtones and wallpapers (without using a promo code or a special promotion), you need to either have a data cord for your phone, or get on a web browsing plan. The web browsing plans are only about $5 a month or so.

Once you have a web browsing plan on your phone, download some ringtones (kazaa, bittorrent, torrents, etc) or make your own using software. Take the ringtones and upload them to putfile.com, and then take the URL that putfile gives you, and enter that URL into your phones web browser.

After entering the URL to the ring tone or wallpaper, your phone will automatically save the ringtone after you confirm that it is okay.

The url you get will most likely be something like http://www.putfile.com/songname.midi. You must type the exact location of the ringtone in order for it to download.

Do not use those free ringtone sites you see on google as they are a rip off. Your better off just uploading your own. The first thing they ask for is your phone number, and once they have it and you agree to their terms, your theirs, and they will not hesitate to charge you a LOT of money.

Mobile Phone Rental

I never gave it much though when I first heard of it, but again today I heard about a mobile phone rental program. What makes this virgin mobile phone rental program different than the other phone rentals in the UK, is that Virgin Mobile was asking for feedback on the idea. It looks like VM may consider renting and leasing cell phones in certain markets.

I know there are a lot of businesses that already do this in the UK, where mobile phone retailers are a bit cheaper already. Mobile phone retailers in the UK have already embraced the concept of renting out phones, but is the US ready for this? And honestly, who is going to rent a $20 - $50 phone anyways?

I'm sure this will fade away, but I just wanted to discuss the concept of renting phones in the US, as it's a really interesting concept for a pre paid provider.

Making a pre paid Phone or Top Up Card Return

Virgin Mobiles return policy is simple. If, within the first 30 days you own the phone, you would like to return it, you can do so. If it is after 30 days, however, Virgin Mobiles return policy makes it impossible to return the phone except for an exchange for the same phone.

This only applies if you bought the pre paid phone from Virginmobileusa.com or from a live representative. If you purchased it in a store, the phone return would be up to the company in which your purchased it from. I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing your phone from Best Buy. When you buy from best buy, you have a 90 day return window, and you can even get an accidental damage warranty from Best Buy.

Pre Paid Top up cards are non-refundable according the Virgin Mobiles Policy, but there is a loop hole. If you call in and say that you do not have coverage in your area and purchased the top up card to go with a phone you were going to activate, they will give you a mailing address and a confirmation number. Simply mail the top up card and receipt to the address, and within 6 weeks you will get a check for the total amount of the top up card.

This loop hole can also apply to pre paid phones you purchased.

You can even get a refund for a prepaid phone card that has already been applied to an account, just say the coverage in your area is really bad and the phone is un-usable, and they will process a return for you. They will not, however, pro-rate minutes used from your prepaid phone card and then make a refund. If any minutes are used, you can not get a refund.

Virgin Mobile USA Going Public.. IPO not announced

Virgin Mobile USA is teaming up with Merrill Lynch (MER) and is confirmed to be preparing go public.

It is said that Virgin Mobile will be traded under the symbol VM on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Virgin Mobile USA is the US subsidiary of UK's Virgin Mobile and operates on Sprints CDMA-based Personal Communications Service (PCS) network. Virgin Mobile USA began operating in the USA in 2002 and is one of the first pre-paid providers in the US. Virgin Mobile has already grown to 5 million users.

Virgin MobileThe IPO (Initial Public Offering) date has yet to be announced.

Text Bundles to become Messaging Bundles

In the next couple weeks you should notice that Virgin Mobile is renaming their Txt Bundles to Messaging Bundles. What does this mean for you?

When you purchase a Messaging Plan as opposed to the soon to be old Text Plan, you will not only get Text messages but Picture Messages, Email messages, and Mobile Aim Service (also coming soon).

So, no longer will you be stuck with just 1000 txt messages, you will have 1000 text, picture, email, or Aim messages, and you won't have to purchase a seperate email plan from Virgin. Also, when you send a text, picture, email, or mobile aim message, it will take only 1 message from your bundle.

In the next couple days you should begin receiving alerts on your mobile phone informing you of the change and giving you the opportunity to go ahead and switch to the new bundles.

Getting a Refund or Credit to your Account

When calling Virgin Mobile, it is important to remember that the representatives are trained not to refund any plan and it is a very confusing process for the rep to refund you a credit card transaction or for any plan.

If you are requesting money back from virgin mobile, the representatives can only credit up to $10. So if your rep is hesitant to refund you, ask to speak with a team lead or supervisor. A team lead can credit up to $25 and a supervisor $50. Unfortunately, for a refund over $50, no one in the call center will be able to offer you the refund and you will need to write the corporate office.

But, if you do catch a incompetent rep, just remember you can scam an easy $10 credit from them with some blatant social engineering.

And, if you have been denied refunds in the past from Virgin Mobile and feel like they stole money from you, well... they did :-P... I've seen someone sign up for the $99.99 plan accidentally, and 5 minutes later switch to the $49.99 plan. Guess what... No refund for that.

Now go call Virgin Mobile and get your free $10, no promotional code, coupon, or promo code needed.

Trouble sending picture messages

If you have a Virgin Mobile or Boost mobile phone and have been having trouble sending picture messages, it's probably not your phone.

The really smart folks at Virgin Mobile still haven't figured out how to get picture messages to send picture messages to other networks. So, to send a picture message with Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile, you need to send to someone who is also a Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile customer. You honestly will have issues even trying to send to Sprint customers, and they are on the same network!

Virgin Mobile is saying that they will have this fixed within the next year, so until then, there really isn't anything you can do to get your picture messages to send.

Call Virgin Mobile from your phone for Free

If you need to get a hold of Virgin Mobile AYS from your handset, try calling using *86, *VM, or 611 from your handset. Any of those three short codes will connect you to Virgin Mobile and you will not have any minutes (or money) deducted from your account for the call.

If you call using the 1-888-322-1122 number, your account will be billed for the call, regardless of what the At Your Service Representative may tell you.

Be Careful where you purchase your phone!

When purchasing a used phone you need to be very careful. Virgin Mobile Phones, Boost Mobile Phones, and Sprint Phones all use a permanent ESN number as opposed to a SIM card like T-Mobile uses.

The phone can become permanently locked and un-usable when the phone is reported lost or stolen, suspected of fraud, or the phone wasn't returned as part of a warrant exchange, and for many other reasons.

If you purchase a phone that is locked because of any of the reasons mentioned above, the phone will be 100% useless to you and you will never be able to activate it onto an account.

The phone you purchase could also already be linked to an account and unless you got the MDN (cell phone number) and the vKey, then you will not be able to create a new account for the phone or do ANYTHING on the account your phone is linked with. The only thing you really can do is wait 90-180 days for the account to expire, and then you will be able to activate the phone. But honestly, who would want to wait that long?

So, if you must purchase a phone online, try using eBay and purchase only from highly rated members, or using craigslist and then meeting the seller face to face.

Before you purchase the phone, you need to request the ESN and call Virgin Mobile At Your Service (AYS) at 1-888-322-1122 and ensure that it has a clean ESN.

Virgin Festival 2007 Bands and Info

The 2007 Virgin Festival we be held in Baltimore, Maryland at the Pimlico Race Course. (click here for directions to the Pimlico Race Course).

This will be the 2nd annual Virgin Festival and will be 2 days long (Saturday August 4 - Sunday August 5th)

Every year the Virgin Festival will be getting bigger and bigger. This year the Fest has almost doubled in size and next year will surely be larger. Too bad it isn't in Dallas though.

If your into free stuff, you need to make the Fest if possible. They will be giving out free virgin mobile phone s, and free top up card s (last year they gave out top up cards worth up to $30!). You can also catch other cool virgin mobile swag such as t-shirts and hats/beanies.

Many people don't realize that new customers with Virgin Mobile can get a free mobile phone. Surprisingly enough Virgin Mobile's phones are so cheap that they can afford to give them away on a prepaid no contract plan.

To get these phones you have to order them from the Virgin Mobile USA website (virginmobileusa.com). Currently you can get the K10 royal and a Nokia shorty for free when you buy a $20 top up card. You can also get the Slider Sonic on sale for 79.99 and it comes with a $20 top up card, which makes the phone only $59.99.

Radioshack Lied to you about Free Nights and Weekends

Radioshack often tells customers that they can receive Unlimited Nights and Weekends even on the 18 cent a minute plan with Virgin Mobile.

This is not true and leads to a lot of unhappy customers. If you are looking for free nights and weekends, the 44.99 plan will again have unlimited nights and weekends within the next 2 months, and there is always the 59.99 plan and the 99.99 plan.

Radioshack employees will tell customers this because they earn a commisson on all merchandise that they sell.

If you were told you would get free nights and weekends, you were lied to. Only the 59.99 plan and 99.99 plan have unlimited nights/weekends at this time.
